Your support is urgently needed to help Orangutan Foundation International (OFI) raise $640,000 for the purchase and permanent protection of 6,400 acres of prime orangutan habitat in Indonesian Borneo.
Known as the Rawa Kuno Legacy Forest, this vast, biologically-rich forest is home to hundreds of orangutans and other endangered wildlife species. Yet, like so much of Borneo’s forestland, it is currently at risk of being clear-cut and converted to palm oil agriculture—a monoculture in which few, if any, species can survive.
Our Story:
Our family recently visited an endngered species preserve. We learned of the destructiveness the palm-oil industry has on the rainforest and its inhabitants. We fell in love with the orangutans at this preserve and feel it would be ashame to lose this species forever. The orangutan is in danger of becoming extinct within ten to twenty years. For this reason we no longer buy products with palm-oil and would love it if OFI is able to purchase this land and save it from deforestation.
Thank you,
Riley and Angela Houle
