THANK YOU ALL for your donations. We exceeded our goal by over $4,000. You are the best.
GO BRAD!
---------------------------------
Well here we are again, Boston Marathon 2012!
I was honored and humbled by the strength of the support of my friends and family last year. This cause- to raise money for the Matt Larson Pediatric Brain Cancer Foundation, is truly a worthy and gratifying one. If you remember from last year, I ran in memory of Robert Duffy Junior, an amazing guy who passed away in 2010. He was such a great kid, and I respect him immensely for how he dealt with the disease. He is missed terribly.
Last year we raised ~ $13,000 in his memory with your support. Thank you.
Along the way, I ran over 500 miles in preparation for the race, and achieved my goal of breaking 3:10 with a (tail-wind aided..) 3:07:53. You can see my training buddy Jim "The Goat" Bunnell behind me in this picture from '11 to the right. I think he was drafting off of me...
I thought of not imposing on the generosity of last years donors by taking a year off from fund-raising.
That was until my son Jackson's friend and 12 year-old soccer teammate Brad Liska was diagnosed with pediatric brain cancer. Brad went into surgery days before Thanksgiving 2011, and has been recovering and undergoing chemo since then.
You never know how prevalent and terrible this disease is until it hits your home or one of your friends.
So, I am dedicating this year's run and fundraising efforts to 12-year old Brad Liska.
Brad is an amazing soccer player, and was the anchor to our team's defense last fall, locking down the center fullback position. Brad seemed to be everywhere at once on the field, and is one of the fastest and most intense kids out there. He will be missed immensely on the field this winter and spring, and the team is dedicating the remainder of the season to Brad.
Brad is a renaissance man, from playing the piano to competing at the National Jump Roping Competition, and he does it all with such passion and enthusiasm. He continues to engage in a huge amount of activities after his surgery and maintains an amazing outlook on things
He certainly makes me feel like an under-achiever.. I'd better get back on the road and run some more.
Please join me in helping Brad and his family, and in combatting this disease. Any contribution is sincerely appreciated, and will be used to fund further research and help families to defray expenses while battling pediatric brain cancer. Any small amount makes a huge difference, and is greatly appreciated.
I will be contributing my weekly training mileage along the way as well.
Continued prayers and best wishes to Brad and to the Liska Family as they fight this terrible disease.
Thank you.
Scott (with much support from Jackson, Julie, and Sam)
