Scott Gregoire's Fundraising Page
If you know me well enough, you're seeing this email and saying to yourself - what?! Scott's running the NYC marathon?!!
Yes it's true, I'm running 26.2 miles and why? To raise money for a wonderful cause, the Central Park Conservancy.
You might be surprised to find out that the majority of our beloved Park's care is in the hands of the Central Park Conservancy- the Conservancy provides 85% of
Central Park 's $27 million annual operating budget!!! And only thanks to the generosity of individuals, corporations, foundations, and the City of
New York , has the Central Conservancy been able to invest more than $450 million to date into the Park, making it a model for urban parks worldwide.
In addition, the Conservancy funds many public programs in the Park, from cultural series such as the Harlem Meer Performance Festival, to sports and recreation activities like climbing and fitness programs, and volunteer-led free walking tours. Educational programs such as Central Park Scholars and
Camp
Central Park promote learning and leadership to the next generation of Park stewards.
In my opinion,
Central Park is the heart of the city. It's part of what makes
New York beautiful, both in its impeccable appearance as well as it being the meeting place/hub/central host to a wide variety of community activities.
And like most public goods that benefit everyone, sometimes we take advantage without remembering to give back. That's why I've decided to run the New York City Marathon for this great cause. I hope you will contribute any amount you can and help me reach my goal of raising $5,000 for the Central Park Conservancy.
