I believe the long distance triathlon is the perfect metaphor for the race to treat autism. So I am dedicating my upcoming race to autism research. The race is the Lonestar Ironman 70.3 in Galveston, TX on April 25, 2010. An Ironman 70.3 consist of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and a 13.1 mile run. I hope to finish in under 6 hours. It is exactly 1/2 the distance of a full ironman which is 140.6 miles total. To properly prepare for a long distance triathlon I must complete a research based training program. My training is constantly adjusted with data from a heart rate moniter. However, a well designed program goes no where without a personal passion for the finish line. Also, I know I could not make it without the support of training partners, volunteers, family, and friends. This parallels my professional work in behavioral autism treatment. In this field we implement individualized research based training programs to prepare individuals with autism for the race of life. We constanly are taking data to adjust their programing. However, a well designed program still requires a passionate team of family & professionals to be effective. I look forward to connecting my professional and personal passions in this effort to raise awareness and funds for even better autism programming in the future. Please join me because together WE CAN !!!!!
