A few weeks ago at my Friday morning Bible study our leader laid out one red envelope in front of everyone at the table. None of us knew quite what to think about it.
He then explained that for some time he and his wife have had it on their heart to put money out into the community of believers and ask them to do something with it that would further the kingdom.
Turns out, there was $100 in each of those envelopes. Our only directive was to do something for the kingdom with it.
Immediately I knew that I wanted to see this money multiply. Elyse and I decided to match the amount but wanted to see it grow even more.
After some time thinking about it we decided that micro-finance was the best way to make this money grow. Our seed money would be given to someone in a developing nation, allowing them to build a business, develop skills, become more self sufficient and pay back the loan. The repaid loan would then re-loaned to someone else thus continuing the cycle. The seed money would multiply again, and again, and again...
World Concern is an incredible organization that facilitates micro-finance lending (among many other great things).
Gifts as small as $20 can make up an entire loan for some people in developing nations. With loan repayment rates between 95-98% your donation will be well managed.
More information on this program can be found here.
I would love to see 23 people donate $100 but again, gifts as small as $20 can change the life of someone half a world away.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
