As you may or may not be aware, I do a lot of work with two great organizations: Habitat for Humanity, which provides homeownership opportunities to low income families, and GRID Alternatives,which also works with low income families to convert their homes to solar power, saving them money while also saving our environment.  Now I have an opportunity to support both these organizations at once - at Solarthon 2009.

On September 12th, I will be on site with over 200 other volunteers installing solar power systems on 16 Habitat for Humanity homes in Oakland.  Over their lifetime these systems alone will generate over $270,000 in renewable energy for low income families while also cutting 800 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

Your contribution will help support more projects like this, as well as ongoing solar installations throughout the year.  Right now GRID Alternatives is trying to raise $100,000 to continue their work, and I have pledged to support them by raising at least $250 towards that goal.
