Shannon Heaps's Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting my 2009 Walk for Farm Animals fundraising page!
I'm participating in the Walk for Farm Animals to help Farm Sanctuary raise awareness about the realities of factory farming. The annual Walk for Farm Animals helps fund Farm Sanctuary's education and advocacy efforts.
Farm Sanctuary is the nation's leading farm animal protection organization. Since incorporating in 1986, Farm Sanctuary has worked to expose and stop cruel practices of the "food animal" industry through research and investigations, legal and institutional reforms, public awareness projects, youth education, and direct rescue and refuge efforts. Farm Sanctuary shelters in Watkins Glen, New York, and Orland, Calif., provide lifelong care for hundreds of rescued animals, who have become ambassadors for farm animals everywhere by educating visitors about the realities of factory farming.
Most of you know how important this is to me and this is a wonderful organization who leads the nation in promoting change in the industrialization of livestock farming. Basic standards of animal welfare are nonexistant on factory farms; these 'farms' pollute both water and air, use an incredible amount of energy and cause serious risks to the nation's public healh - not only by providing cheap meat leading to overconsumption (obesity, colon cancer, heart disease) but also by emitting antibiotic, hormone, and arsenic residue in OUR food chain. They also destroy the fabric of rural America and inhibit the growth and success of small, sustainable farms. This is not a vegetarian agenda it's an ethical and moral issue. So please help me raise money for this cause - even a few dollars goes a long way!
I hope you will make a pledge of support for farm animals in need by making a donation for my participation in the 2009 Walk. THANK YOU!
