2nd Annual Celebrate Wayne & Conquer SADS
On September 29, 2009 I unexpectedly lost my husband and my daughter lost her father exactly 1 month after her 3rd birthday. We soon learned that Wayne Sawyer had an undiagnosed genetic heart condition called Long QT Syndrome. We also learned that our daughter, niece and other family members have the condition as well. And ..... we learned that Wayne's death was preventable.
On June 3, 2011, we are holding the 2nd Annual Celebrate Wayne & Conquer SADS (Sudden Arrythmia Death Syndromes) memorial benefit at Smith's Olde Bar in Midtown Atlanta. This event will raise funds for the SADS Foundation by sponsoring our designated climber in the 2011 Climb to Conquer SADS fundraiser. We are very lucky to have team captain, Brian Hoots, represent our family again. Last year Brian reached the summit with 2 flags in honor of Wayne and shared his story before returning to base camp.
At our 2010 benefit we raised over $12,000 that was used to:
- Provide Family Support to assist patients and their families in making informed medical decisions and living with the challenges of these conditions
- Increase General Awareness of Warning Signs to recognize and prevent heart rhythm abnormalities
- Educate Health Care Professionals in early diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm abnormalities
- Be Advocates to increase arrhythmia research and improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
We look to beat that number this year, and we can do it with your help.
Our event is a celebration of Life and will include live music from Jerry Joseph, Josh Stack & TangleSpeak, as well as a silent auction and catering by Fox Bros BBQ. Whether you are able to attend in person or just want to support this very important cause, we are so very grateful to have your help. Several thousand young people die unnecessarily each year from SADS in the United States, and education is the answer.
Together we WILL SAVE LIVES.
