All my life I've felt a calling to join the Peace Corps and a passion for helping those affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.  I've been blessed to receive the opportunity to go to Durban, South Africa and experience the immersion and volunteer exposure that I've longed for. Through CFHI (http://www.cfhi.org/web/index.php/program/show/id/218) I will have the privilege of going to help in four different HIV/AIDS clinics and Hospices from June 30th, 2012 for four weeks in Durban.  
I am thrilled for this opportunity to not only help, but to learn from the medical staff, the patients, my host family and culture I will be imersed in. It will be a riveting challenge that I hope you can help me reach.
I must raise $2,145.00 by February of this year, and by many kind donations outside of this site, I only have $1695.00 remaining in order to pay the program fees required to volunteer for this nonprofit organization. Reaching my goal of $1695.00 by February may not be obtainable through this site, but if you could help me raise $700.00 , then I should be able to save and pull together the remaining amount.

• At the end of 2009, an estimated 5.6 million people were living with HIV/AIDS in South Africa.
• Approximately 17.8% of the adult population is infected with HIV.
  
• More than 1.4 million children in South Africa have lost one or both parents to AIDS.

 

This program will give me the opportunity to help in the understaffed clinics of Durban, and interact with people afflicted with or have had their lives touched by HIV/AIDS.
