Hi Friends,
Alvin came to us from an unbearable situation. There was no love or care for this boy. He was merely a pawn for his owners. We do not know the extent of the abuse and neglect Alvin suffered over the years he was in his former 'home', but we know he was in deplorable physical condition and had the most forlorn look in his eyes. When called he would put his head down and try to run away. Initially he spent almost 6 weeks at the Dwight Veterinary Clinic where they were able to treat his physical problems. After that, he came to live with us. With time, love and consistency, Alvin has slowly learned to trust humans again. Not long ago Alvin went to the dog park. He ran with ears flapping and I swear you could see him "smiling".
Just a few weeks ago, Alvin was adopted by the most wonderful family. He is now part of a 2 basset family (the other from GABR as well). He has a huge yard to run in and a family that dearly loves him and cares for him as he should be cared for. To quote his new mom; "We just love him to pieces".
Without supporters like you, Alvin would not be alive today...happy, healthy and in a loving home. GABR covers the cost of spay/neuter, all vaccinations and any medical care a foster dog requires. Our Foster homes provide the dog's food, water, safe shelter and most of all understanding, patience and lots of love they so desperately need.
Please help us raise funds to continue this labor of love. Guardian Angel Basset rescue is the largest single breed rescue in the Midwest. Guardian Angel rescues, provides full veterinary care, fosters and hand selects a home for over 300 dogs each year. As you can imagine the vet bills are very large, averaging over $10,000 per month. With so many families forced to give up their beloved bassets because of finances, deployments, etc. GABR has helped by stepping up and providing the care and finding new homes for their bassets.
We count on the support of fellow dog lovers, our families and friends to provide healthy, happy lives for every basset that we rescue.
On September 19th, we're walking in the 2010 Illinois Waddle. Can you imagine over 1000 bassets are there to "Waddle"?
