My dearest family, friends, co-workers, acquaintances, and fellow nature nerds –
Fresh off of a backpacking trip in Yosemite, and as part of my summer-long prep for an August Mt. Whitney climb, I'm joining a team of like-minded masochists hikers this Saturday, July 3rd, in trekking up to the 10,068’ summit of Mount San Antonio (“Mt Baldy” to most of you) as part of the Climb Up The 50 event to raise money for the American Foundation for Children With AIDS.
Spearheaded by the awesome Casey Schreiner of ModernHiker.com, the goal of Saturday’s epic hike is to rally the troops to bring some (tax-deductible) dollars to an important cause - as much as I love hiking for my own satisfaction, I love the idea of hiking in honor of these kids even more.
The money we raise will go incredibly far - $30 provides enough anti-retroviral meds to help a kid combat AIDS for a month; $140 is antibiotics for ten kids for a full year; $500 gives one HIV+ child all of the meds they need for 16 months; $5000 will feed 400 kids for a month!
The great thing is – all of the money that I raise will be pooled with all of the money that our team raises will be pooled with all the money that other teams raise…and you get the picture. Our dollars go directly into the services, medication, and food that will help these children sustain as healthy a life as possible.
Thanks for reading - to learn more about Climb Up So Kids Can Grow Up, check out: http://www.climbupsokidscangrowup.com - and please consider donating today! $1, $5, $10, $20, $25, $50…whatever you can. Please and thank you.
Note – Thank you to those of you who have already donated! I know we’ll hit my original, rather arbitrary goal of raising $250 by the end of the week. I’d be even more thankful if we could hit the benchmark of $500, knowing how much more that will help, so let’s raise the bar!
I promise photos and a riveting written account of the journey afterwards...that is, after I ice myself down, submerge myself in a hot bath, and fill myself with large quantities of chocolate.
THANK YOU!!!
