Shayna Roth's Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting my Mitzvah Project Fundraising Page!
I chose the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) as my bat mitzvah project because I can relate to this cause in many ways. A few years ago, I found out I was allergic to apples. This was not dramatic news, but I loved apples, so it was an adjustment to get used to. Not long after that, other fruits and vegetables started to bother me also. What would happen was my throat and mouth would get VERY uncomftorable and itchy, like I wanted to put my hand in my throat and itch it, but the only thing I could really do was clear my throat. The feeling went away after about 10, 15 minutes, but in the meantime I was miserable. We later found out that I was allergic to all tree fruits (apples, peaches, pears, ect.), carrots, celery, potatoes, and hazelnuts. These foods aren't totally out of my diet, because I can have all of them cooked or proccesseed in any way, but it was very upsetting to find out that I now could not have many of my favorite foods as there is a small chance that I could go into anaphylaxic shock. I have found it a little annoying to have to carry an Epi-Pen with me, and recently learned I need to take a lactaid pill before eating dairy, but finding and learning about this cause really helped me to understand how I might be upset with my food allergies, but a lot of people in this world have allergies that are life-threatening and a lot worse than mine.
