This year’s annual Walk for Fidelco is very special. It is a celebration of Fidelco’s 50 years of breeding and training the highest quality German shepherd guide dogs to the visually impaired. But, this year’s walk means even more to team Nikka’s Pawtners. In 2010 team families, the LaMothes and the Mullowneys, each lost treasured four-legged family members. Klaus, a handsome 10 year old German shepherd, and Joj, an 8 year old sweet little red coated min pin, both fell victims to cancer.
In addition to his years of loyalty, love and entertainment to the LaMothe family, Klaus made contributions to Fidelco in his own way. He served as a loving disciplinarian to our Fidelco pups, Nikka and Jewel, tolerating their puppy antics to an extent, but letting them know who was boss when they took things a bit too far. His special blend of caring and discipline carried over to foster pups Rayna, Xyla and Ursa, who we puppy sat while Nikka was in training. Even though our home is full of energy from our dogs Gunnar, Nikka and little foster pup, Jewel – there is an obvious hole in our dog dominant home. Klaus was the definition of a German shepherd – smart, loyal, inquisitive – he had such presence, a presence that is missed every day.
So, this year Nikka’s Pawtners walks in memory of our beloved Klaus and Joj. And, for Jean & Chuck’s Khloe, Sharon’s best buddy Jake, Karen & Bob’s Taylor, Gary & Joanne’s Chet and Tiff, and Nico's Canine Companion, Ames. To our loved and remembered pups – This Walk’s For You!
