On August 5,2010 the Leander City Council approved TNR reform. It is now legal to trap, neuter and return within the city!   Thanks to this progressive Council many cats will be allowed to live out their lives and new kittens will not be born - fewer cats through humane TNR!

The new ordinance requires that all cats be microchipped.  This is a small chip placed under the skin that will identify a cat throughout its' lifetime. The cost to Shadow Cats for each cat chipped is $10.00.  The cats are chipped at the Austin Humane Society through the Feral Cat program and is done while they are being sterilized.

We are requesting $10 donations to cover the cost of microchopping one cat (or sponsor a colony of cats at $10 each).   Shadow Cats averages 500 TNR'd cats per year in our own efforts.  In addition there are citizens trapping cats in their own backyards that either not willing or not in a financial position to spend any funds on community cats- and although we may not be directly trapping the cats ourselves, we want to help those cats also and ensure they are being microchipped as the new ordinance requires.
