Shasha is a beautiful four year old born to a mother who was abandoned in Round Rock, Tx. This feline family - along with other cats within the stable colony-have been dutifully cared for for many years. Shasha loves to roll in the grass but even better prefers to roll in a dust bath! She has a really cute personality and is friendly on her own terms but most usually at arms length.
Shasha is a regular at the feeding location but recently failed to appear for three consecutive days. When she finally crept in to eat on Sunday, we immediately noticed the injuries to her mouth and eye. The fact that she allowed herself to be picked up, wrapped in a towel, and placed in a carrier is amazing and a testament to the amount of pain she was experiencing. We were thankful that she came to us for help and for her cooperation.
Upon exam, Shasha had a broken jaw and a very serious infection throughout most of her facial area. She must have been in terrible pain! After several days of antibiotics and stabilization, her jaw was wired this last week. This will have to remain in place for quite some time.
So far Shasha has been the purrfect patient. We can only hope this continues and the bond that exists between her and her guardian caretakers will prevail while she is healing. The foundation of trust was laid years ago and it is our hope that this will aid her (and us!) in allowing us to give her the care she needs.
Shasha is but one of the injured cats Shadow Cats works to provide veterinary care for. The life of a street cat is not always as we want it to be and bad things sometimes happen. It is for cats like these, cats that could fall through the cracks so easily, that we work so hard to make a difference.
Please consider our cause to help injured street cats like Shasha and if you can would you please donate now for their care? We owe for Shasha's care and any funds beyond that will go to help other injured cats that our trappers and caretakers encounter or that we are called on to provide care for. Lets help the most vunerable population of cats have access to veterinary care when they need it most. Will you please help them?
UPDATE OCTOBER 2010 from Shasha's foster mom.....
"...helping this pretty girl has truly been our pleasure. She has become an affectionate, purring little fluff ball. Amazing. Until i picked her up and placed her in the carrier, she had been touched little, if any, by human hands. Last week when she had her check-up, we didn't even need a tech to hold her. She goes back to the doctor on Thursday... hope she still feels cooperative!"
We are thrilled with Shasha's progress, but there are still many more cats that need our help. We have a cat at one of our colonies that has a mouth injury that we are working to re-trap, another with a fractured pelvis that is being treated and several kittens in need. With your support we are able to continue to help community cats.. Thank you for helping us to say YES!
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to help the injured community cats of central Texas.
