Shadow Cats Rescue

Shadow Cats and the Santa Rosa Kittens

Shadow Cats and the Santa Rosa Kittens

The email came across our desk in big bold letters, "PLEASE HELP, I BEG YOU! " With that heading, we tentatively opened the correspondence and began to read of horrifying conditions the community cats were enduring in this Austin neighborhood.  Rampant breeding, parasite ridden kittens, kittens with broken bones, emaciated mothers trying to nurse their babies- a truly terrible situation.

Shadow Cats contacted trappers in this area and they quickly responded to the plight of the cats but soon found the need to be even greater than first thought.  Julia and Calene began trapping and sterilizing any cat deemed healthy enough to undergo surgery. Kittens and moms were placed into available foster homes.  Rosemary (pictured), a tiny six week old kitten found limping along the street after being hit by a car, was quickly snatched up and taken to the veterinary hospital.  There, she was found to have a broken femur. Dr. Meyer of Riverside Veterinary Clinic in Austin put a tiny pin into her leg to help her mend.  You can see the incision on her leg above. So far, its a success!

To date, over twenty kittens have been identified and of those, eleven are currently in foster homes and receiving care.  Others are yet to be discovered and there are many cats and kittens that still need our help.  For Rosemary and her rescued friends, they are the lucky ones. For those still out there waiting for us, we can only come to you, the generous donors and supporters of ShadowCats and ask once again for your help.

All donations made through this site will benefit  the Santa Rosa Project kittens and go directly to their veterinary care and support.

In addition to financial contributions, fosters are needed to care for this influx of kittens. If you can assist with fostering for a short period, or if you would like to adopt one of these angels please contact Julia or Calene at jhil@austin.rr.com or calcat75@yahoo.com

Thank you to the trappers and rescuers who work the front lines to make such a huge difference in the lives of community cats and thank you to the donors and supporters that allow us to be able to provide the veterinary care they need.  The cats of the Santa Rosa neighborhood had little chance of survival but with your help, they now have an opportunity for a different life.

Thank you!
