ADVENTURE FOR THE CURE
the “Dirty Dozen’s” ride to raise awareness and funds to support the Gynecological Cancer Foundation
Very few opportunities come along in our lives where we are able to combine our passions with a purpose, but this August Shelby and Mary have been given the opportunity, along with 10 other women, the “dirty dozen” to participate in the Adventure for a Cure – a dual sport motorcycle ride from the plains of South Dakota to the mountains of Colorado. Our ride concludes at the International Women’s Motorcycle Conference where we will have the opportunity to share our experiences and our journey with thousands of women from all over the US. We are both humbled and honored to participate in this adventure that benefits the Gynecological Cancer Foundation.
Our participation in this ride is a perfect opportunity for us to bring attention to such an important cause – a cause that does not often get the attention and education that it so direly needs.
- In 2008, over 80,000 women in the US were diagnosed with cancer of the reproductive organs: the ovaries, uterus, cervix, vulva and vagina. On average, one woman in the US is diagnosed with a form of gynecological cancer every 7 minutes – more than 200 diagnosis per day
- Since 2003, approximately 130,000 women in the US have died from gynecological cancers
- Yearly screenings and checkups are vital for the early detection and successful treatment of gynecological cancers. In fact, over the last 50 years, the routine use of the Pap test to screen for cervical cancer has reduced deaths from the disease by 74%

These are the powerful tools that make beating gynecological cancers possible. These are the powerful tools that give us all hope.
We are so thankful for this opportunity to be a small part of a larger movement to eradicate gynecological cancers.
