PHOENIX CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Phoenix,  Arizona

Sherri Eaker's Fundraising Page

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to visit my personal fundraising page! On January 17, 2010, I will be running in the P.F. Chang's Rock "N" Roll Marathon.  This will be my first marathon. . . that's right, a full marathon - 26.2 miles!  It is definately going to be quite the challenge, but small in comparison to the challenges that lies ahead of my Honor Patient Brady Wein.  He is so adorable and his family is amazing.

Brady's Story:

I was born last year on June 1st - my mommy call me a 'little June Bug' !  I met my PCH family on September 24th when I first got sick.  I spent the first couple weeks in the ICU.  Those Dr.'s and RN's took great care of me and got me ready to go upstairs to get rid of my leukemia.  Two of the my nurses from down there still check on me all the time to make sure I'm doing okay!  When I moved up to the oncology floor it was a big change. . .my mommy was scared at first.  My whole family was soon put to ease by all the wonderful, caring CA2 staff.  My mommy and daddy, both, feel the love that goes into the treatment they give to me. . .and the encouragement and support they provide to them has been unexpected, appreciated and much needed.

I have so far completed 4 rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant (BMT) that was on March 13, 2009.  Everyone thought this was behind us but we found out the leukemia was still there in August - actually 5 months to the day from BMT (Aug. 13).  So, we are back at it again - to finally get rid of all this yucky disease!  I will get chemo until I'm back in remission and then another BMT.  My mommy and daddy tell me this is the hardest thing I would have to fight against but that I am strong and can, no doubt, do it!

We are all so happy and relieved to have PCH and its amazing staff - a.k.a. friends/family! - to get us through this one day at a time.

B is for Brady - - B STRONG!

Which leads me to say, my goal is to raise $1000.00 by December 15, 2009 and would like to ask you to make a donation.  I understand that many of you are “tight” right now with the changes in the economy, so anything that you can afford to give will be GREATLY appreciated! Please also feel free to send this on to anyone whose e-mail I don’t have or friends who may be interested in donating. The website is 100% secure and your donation is 100% tax deductable.

Many thanks for your thoughts, prayers, words of encouragement, and support!.

Thank you,

Sherri Eaker - Miracles In Motion

Mileage Log:

Note:  Thank you Wendy, Barbara, Davy and Connie, and AnnMarie for your kind support.  The next couple of months are going to be quite a challenge, not only to me with the training miles increasing rapidly, but for Brady who is bravely battling leukemia right at this very momet and for his parents who are holding strong with their love and support for Brady and for each other.  Please take a moment to say a healing prayer for Brady and for his mom and dad.  Pray and Believe!

10/09/09 Ran 12 miles - thanks to my husband for riding his bike along side of me while I ran the canal at night.  Note to self: not a good idea to do long runs at night - legs must have more time to recover before going to sleep.  Overall, the run went well.

10/16/09  Ran 2 miles with a neighbor who is new to running and only has ran on a treadmill - she did awesome for her first time on the road.

10/17/09  Ran 13 miles (10 miles ran and HAD to walk 3 miles) - took on more than I fueled up for!  Lesson that is learned - eat plenty of calories two days leading up to long runs.

"You will not die from running. You will pass out first!"

10/20/09  Ran 2 miles - alot of pollulants in the air tonight, got a little weezie.

10/23/09 Ran/walk 8 miles

10/25/09-10/27/09  Hiked 16 miles round trip Hermit Trail, Grand Canyon.  LOVE HIKING THE GRAND CANYON!!!

11/01/09 Ran 4 miles

11/02/09 Ran 3 miles

11/05/09 Ran 4 miles in the morning and 3 miles at night (ran with a new runner - she is doing great and she will be running her first 5k November 15th Aflac Iron Girl in Tempe).

11/07/09 Ran 9 miles - oh boy, need to get new running shoes.  My feet hurt!!!

11/09/09 Ran 3 miles

11/10/09 Ran 3 miles

11/12/09 Ran 3 miles

11/15/09  AFLAC Iron Girl 10 mile run!!!!

11/16/09 Ran 1-1/2 miles and walked 1-1/2 miles

Note:  Would like to express my appreciation  to Rhonda, Dr. Adams, Renee, Mike & Rachel, Mary & Steve, Vanessa, and mom for your kind donations.  The date is getting closer and the miles are starting to get longer.  The training is becoming very challenging not only physically but mentally.  There are days that I worry that my legs will not be up for the challenge or that I did not fuel my body properly - the last thing that I want to encounter is a road block or injury in the training or during the marathon.  I guess that one can never be completely ready for the obstacles (if any) that waits for them; but, it is all in the way one handles the hurdle.  Thank you for your support and encouragement.

11/19/09  Swam 200 meters.  Some day I will get the whole breath and stroke synchronized instead of taking in water, or what feels like blowing an ear drum, or blowing water up my nose.  My husband would like to see me do the Las Vegas Iron Girl Triathlon in May of 2010 - so he is teaching me how to swim right.  I guess we will see what happens at that time.  Wishing everyone a good weekend!

11/21/09  Ran 14 miles. . .it was a good run - brutal on the knees though.  After a couple of days of rest I will be ready to hit the pavement again on Monday.

11/25/09  Ran 6 miles

11/26/09  Ran 3 miles

11/30/09  Ran 2-1/2 miles and walked 2-1/2 miles.  Ran into obstacle during the run and had to walk home.

**Would like to send out my appreciation to Zach and family, The Kovacs, Kimberly, Katie O, Greg & Nancy F., and Nancy O. for your generous donations and words of encouragement.  Would like to bring a some things to perspective.  During this time of training I have ran into a few obstacles.  Especially this current one where I have not been able to do 2 of the long runs that I had scheduled.  Have I bitten off a too big of a piece to chew with thinking I can do a full marathon?????  Then Brady and his family comes to mind at this time:  When Brady had gone through his bone marrow transplant.  There were ups and downs, and uncertainities.  And fevers or some other obstacle may happen when they least expected them.  How frustrating they may have felt when they were fighting the good fight and trying to get their lives on the healing path and an obstacle is put in the way.  Three steps forward two steps back - it definately tests the patience, mental and physical being of oneself.  Just have to remember it takes one step at a time to B Strong and each challenge is met with new strength and experience.  Brady, I am so happy that you are home and doing well.  You are always in my thoughts and prayers buddy!!  I am so proud of you and your parents for taking on the challenges that you have met along your journey with such bravery, strength, and compassion.  I can learn from you all, so when I am at the cross road of pushing through or quitting - quitting is not an option!

B is 4 Brady - - B Strong!!

12/09/09  Ran 3 miles.  First run since being sick.  Felt a little wheezie but overall the run went well.

12/11/09  Ran 10 miles - from my home in Chandler to my husband's work in South Phoenix.  The run went well and I felt good.

12/16/09  Ran 3 miles.  Wish me luck - sights set on running 16-18 miles this Saturday!  If I get 18 miles I will be back on track with training.

Please pray for a miracle for Brady, his mom and dad. . .

12/19/09  Sweet 16 (miles)!

12/22/09 - oh no! is that a sore throat and an ear ache I am feeling.  Noooooo!

12/23/09 - Yes it is a sore throat and ear ache - I am sick.  Bad timing!!!!!!

12/27/09 - Feeling a little better - but ran 2 miles, lungs burning.  Better rest!

12/31/09 - Ran 20 miles!!!!  Yesssss! Feeling much better.  What a way to end 2009.  Happy New Year EveryBuddy!!!

01/02/09 - Ran 3 miles - but my legs were still fatigue from the 20 mile run couple days earlier.

**Hi EveryBuddy.   Would like to express my appreciation to Kimmie, Aunte Judy, Uncle Carlos and to my grandpa.  Thank you so much you guys for your generous support and words of encouragement.  As the day nears (11 days from now), this event is becoming more real and I am becoming more excited.  I had finished 2009 with a 20 mile run, which took 4 hours and 5 minutes.  With approximate estimation I should cross the finish line in 5 hours - but hoping to finish sooner.  Thank you everyone for being there with advice, encouragement, as my running buddy (Kimmie), as the beautiful person (my husband) who shows up and runs out the last 1/2 mile to mile with me during those really long run days, for Brady and his family who is in my head and heart every step I run - you have amazing strength and committment.  I will B Strong for you little buddy - looking forward to seeing your mommy and daddy at the Finish Line.  That leads me to say, hope to see and hear you all out there cheering on the Phoenix Children's Hospital team "Miracles In Motion" and all the other participants.  Your cheers will get us all to the Finish Line!

Please pray for Brady;  this little guy is still putting up an amazing fight against leukemia.  Keep up the good fight Brady you are Strong, you are Brave, you are Loved, and you are Amazing!
