As most of you, on May 12, 2009, while walking on 10th Street in the crosswalk and crossing 3rd Avenue in NYC, I was struck by a van. As a result of the accident that night, I was left with a shattered tibia, shattered fibula, broken pelvis, broken C1 and C2 vertebrae, a shattered humerus, and a hematoma.I spent 

Shortly before the accident, I spent 6 weeks volunteering as an ASTEP volunteer at Shanti Bhavan in India.  Shanti Bhavan is an amazing place.  It's "a home and an exceptional school for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children of India's lowest caste, the so-called 'untouchables' or dalits.  The children come from families that have been denied basic human rights for centuries. They are victims of extreme social discrimination and are deprived of the opportunity to live with dignity and economic stability."

I am returning to Shanti Bhavan at the end of May to celebrate the graduation of the first class of seniors.  I would like to bring supplies for the school (text books, art supplies, etc.), as well as donate money for the senior's college tuitions.  Because I am on disability from the accident and am not working, these costs (as well as, my plane ticket) are costs that are difficult for me to meet.  I am reaching out to you in the hope that you will be able to donate toward this effort.  A donation of any denomination will be greatly appreciated and will help.
