Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! On October 9th, I will be hitting the streets of Chicago once again in the Chicago Marathon. This year's race is very special to me, not only because it is my 5th marathon, but because I am running it for Imerman Angels, a one-on-one cancer support non-profit that is an incredibly important part of my life.
I have been volunteering with IA for the past 3 ½ years of its 5-year existence, so it has been an inspiring journey to see a grassroots organization based in Chicago grow into the largest global non-profit that provides free one-on-one cancer support, helping thousands of cancer fighters, survivors, and caregivers each year. This year, I am honored to be serving as the President of the Imerman Angels Professionals Board and, through this role, I have developed an even greater appreciation for how IA touches lives through its simple yet profound mission, and a deeper understanding of what it takes, strategically and financially, to keep the organization running and growing…all to ensure that no one faces cancer alone.
That is why, as I run the marathon with team Imerman Active this year, I have set it as my personal goal to raise $3000 for the organization, and I would greatly appreciate any support you are able to provide in helping me achieve that goal. (Many companies match donations too, so don’t hesitate to check on that.) :)
Thank you all so much in advance for your support – it means the world to me! If there is anyone in your life that has been touched by cancer and that you would like me to run in honor of, please let me know – I will wear their names on race day and carry them with me all 26.2 miles. And, as always, if you know anyone who could benefit from one-on-one cancer support, please send them to http://www.imermanangels.org to get connected.
With love and gratitude,
Shilpa
For those that are unfamiliar with Imerman Angels, here’s a brief overview:
Imerman Angels is a non-profit, one-on-one cancer support organization that matches up someone fighting cancer with someone who has beaten that same type of cancer (mentor Angel) - we'll do the one-on-one match up based on type of cancer, age, location, etc. - as close of a match as we can get - to offer the cancer fighter that extra, unique emotional support that can only come from someone who has been in that situation before. We help people regardless of location in the world, regardless of stage of cancer, and, the best part is that it's a service that is completely FREE - whether you are a fighter seeking support, or a survivor wanting to be a mentor Angel - so it's just a matter of spreading the word about the organization so others know they have a resource to turn to. We also match up caregivers (spouses, children, parents, etc. of those fighting cancer) with mentor caregivers. For more information, you can visit www.imermanangels.org or feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
