Some of you may not yet be aware that we have transitioned to an online publication. But that doesn't mean that we are reducing or limiting our services to the community. In fact, we have big plans for 2010. Last year we published the Avenue of the Arts 10 year anniversary catalog as part of an effort to broaden our impact in the community. We hope to serve as more than just a magazine. Though we feel the content Review provides through it's online publication is invaluable to artists, galleries, and arts appreciators, we would like to provide focused print publications on a periodic basis as well as revisiting a monthly printed publication. We would also like to work with other arts organizations and individuals within the visual art community to produce publications focused on contemporary visual arts in the region.
In order to accomplish these goals, we will need more support from the community.
This particular fundraising effort will go toward the production of what we hope will become an annual publication. Three to four regional critics' essays will be included. Their essays will be in response to a juried selection of images submitted by artists throughout our region. These critics will be using these selected works as a basis for a broader discussion on visual art in the greater Kansas City are as well as the more central Midwest region (like Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska). Visual art trends, the cultural significance of the artwork being produced, quality, and other broader implications will be discussed. This annual publication gives writers a better forum for critical dialogue and provides artists with in-depth critical analysis, not only of the work they are creating but of the environment in which it is being created.
