I have been involved with the Utah Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America for over 4 years now. During that time, I have seen tremendous growth, spirit and hope. Here are just a few things we've done this year with your support . . .
• We expanded our office staff AGAIN to better serve the needs of those calling in needing support and information.
• We have increased our reach to communities throughout Utah and are planning on extending Social Butterflies and possibly adding additional sites for the Walk for Lupus Now.
• We continued our awareness campaign in the non-profit section of the Farmer's Market at Pioneer Park all summer.
• We were able to continue our support of local families affected by Lupus with one of our most valuable projects: the medical relief fund for those with Lupus that can't afford their medications. This program has received additional funding each year as it grows due to the increased support.
These are all extremely valuable programs that help people like me when they are faced with a new and devastating diagnosis.
With the approval of Benlysta, this year starts a new era in awareness and medical research. Now, more than ever, we need to be able to support our community and make sure they have access to the programs that help them live with Lupus.
Join me under an umbrella* in rain or shine - in a celebration of hope on Saturday, May 21st!
(*This year we've opted to give out LFAU umbrellas for shade or shelter in lieu of t-shirts!)

A thousand thanks for your continued support.
In my personal journey with this disease, it's almost impossible for me to express my gratitude for the kindness and support of those around me.
It keeps me hopeful. It keeps me strong.
“This is a historic day for the millions of people with lupus and their families around the world who have waited more than 52 years for a treatment breakthrough for lupus. We at the LFA applaud the FDA’s decision to approve BENLYSTA®. BENLYSTA is the first drug ever to be specifically developed to treat lupus, and is a significant first step toward reaching our goal of developing an arsenal of new, safe, effective, and tolerable treatments. Today marks the beginning of a new era of improved diagnosis, prevention, and treatment for the disease.” -Sandra C. Raymond, LFA President and CEO.
Lupus is currently an incurable, often misdiagnosed and very misunderstood disease. Lupus causes the immune system to attack the body's own joints, tissue and organs.
In Utah, there are at least 20,000 people afflicted with Lupus and 2 million nationwide. Lupus can range from a mild illness to a life-threatening disease.
Because of its debilitating effects, Lupus affects more than just those diagnosed. It affects their children, spouses, family and friends. Please help us find a cure.
