Originated in Kansas when Wichita Police Chief Richard LaMunyon saw a need to raise funds for, and awareness of Special Olympics Kansas.
Annually over 1,300 officers carry the Special Olympics Flame of Hope along more than 1,500 miles of Kansas’ roads to open the Summer Games in Wichita.
The largest grassroots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle for Special Olympics Kansas and worldwide.
Raises money for SOKS to provide year-round sports training, education and athletic competition to over 5,300 children and adults in Kansas with intellectual disabilities.
