HUMANE SOCIETY OF GREATER KANSAS CITY

HUMANE SOCIETY OF GREATER KANSAS CITY

Kansas City, KS | EIN: 48-0581965

The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City saves and improves the lives of dogs and cats throughout the greater Kansas City community by providing education, adoptions, spay/neuter services and preventative vet care for low and fixed income pet owners. The Humane Society has been a no-kill shelter since 1994 and helped create, through their Ray of Hope program, the first no-kill county in the Kansas City area (Wyandotte County). Ray of Hope saves animals from the KCK Animal Control when "their time is up" and has reduced the euthanasia rate at the KCK Animal Control facility from 70% in 2007 to 1% in 2010. However, The Humane Society believes you cannot adopt your way out of the problem of pet overpopulation -- preventing the problem is key to our ultimate success. The Humane Society provides spay/neuter services for 6,000 pets a year to pet owners that would normally not have the surgery done due to a cost issue. The shelter's targeted spay/neuter program provides low-cost or free spay/neuter surgeries to those that need it the most and have no resources. The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City is the oldest humane society in the Kansas City area -- serving pets and their people since 1912. The shelter is a private, not-for-profit organization that relies on local support from animal lovers. The shelter receives no funding from the Humane Society of the United States.
