The Girolamo's Race to Beat Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death from gynecologic cancers in the United States and is the fifth leading cause of cancer death among U.S. women. The American Cancer Society estimates that 21,650 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the U.S. in 2008 and about 15,520 women will die from the disease. It is an insidious disease that can strike without warning or cause. The symptoms of ovarian cancer are often vague and subtle, making it difficult to diagnose.
In honor of our aunt, Jackie Lamp, who passed away this July from Ovarian Cancer, we will be training to race in the Marine Corps 10k race on October 26th in Arlington, Virginia to raise money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF). The OCRF is a non-profit organization committed to raising awareness and funding research that is aimed at early detection and finding a cure for ovarian cancer. The OCRF has overhead costs of less than 10% - meaning that 90 cents of every dollar donated will go to fund research and educational materials.
Please join us in the race to beat ovarian cancer. We welcome any new teammates who want to run/walk with us and help raise funds for OCRF. We appreciate all donations in support of this cause, and in the support of the patients and their families currently battling this disease.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and secure. It is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts.
Thank you for your support - and feel free to send this to anyone who you think might want to support us too!
