Bienvenidos! Thank you for visiting my personal fundraising page!
This August, I will be volunteering with AYUDA (American Youth Understanding Diabetes Abroad, Inc.). I will be spending a week in Bermuda with AYUDA training youth leaders with type 1 diabetes to help train youth leaders in leadership and health management at Bermuda’s national camp for children with diabetes, Camp Honey Bee. We will provide both the education and supplies for youth with Type 1 diabetes and teach them and their families how to better manage their illness to prevent complications later in life.
I'm actually missing the first few days of orientation because I will still be at America's Camp, which follows closely on the heels of Kippewa. Three camps in as many months--I must be crazy!
Absolutely. But I've also been extremely fortunate in my life, and have learned not only how to manage my diabetes to the best of my ability, but to do so while travelling all over the world. I've also been able to spend the past nine years at summer camps, and have finally found a full-time job in the field. Not only is AYUDA a tremendous opportunity for me to "pay forward" all that I've learned about diabetes empowerment, but it's a chance to continue to broaden my camp experience and to both share my own expertise and to continue to learn.
AYUDA is a non-profit organization based out of Arlington, VA who works to empower youth to serve as agents of change in diabetes communities around the world, strengthen local diabetes communities by promoting youth leadership, and motivate youth with diabetes to lead healthier and happier lives. If you'd like more information about AYUDA, please visit their website at http://www.ayudainc.net/.
I am very excited to be part of AYUDA's team to work to improve the lives of so many children. I am passionate about providing assistance to others and to watch the quality of their lives improve because of strength, support, community, and love. While there is no cure for diabetes at this time, both you and I have the power to make a difference in these children's live by helping to prevent complications such as blindness, seizures, comas, nerve damage, among others. I'm working very hard to carry out this mission through AYUDA and would greatly appreciate any support that can be given.
I'm asking for whatever amount of donation you are able to give to positively influence the lives of these children. Feel free to forward this link to anyone you feel would be interested. Please know that I will only ask for a donation for a diabetes related cause once this year, and if you donate to AYUDA, I will not pressure you again when it's time for the JDRF Walk (unless, of course, you ask me to!)
Thank you in advance for your support. Your donation, regardless of amount, is greatly appreciated! Even 5 or 10 dollars can make a difference.
I hate to say this, but I am actually on a deadline of August 1, so money donated sooner is much better than money procrastinated until later.
