"Though I cannot change the wind, I can adjust my sails."

 

Since beginning our practice of yoga, we have all changed our understanding of yoga and the yoga community.  As part of the greater yoga community, we are taking part in the 3^rd Annual Karma Kastles Sand Sculpting Competition and Fundraiser for Karma Krew on December 5, 2009, a shining example of Karma Yoga at work in our community.

The Karma Kastles fundraiser works just like a walk-a-thon. Participants raise money on behalf of their sand sculpture team (which we are doing on this site). In the past two years, this event has raised $108,000 with the support of over 800 participants and over 3,000 spectators. Funds raised serve to support Karma Krew’s mind-body wellness programs for abused children as well as its nationwide grassroots community service campaign

In a nutshell, Karma Krew is a consciousness-raising and community mobilizing non-profit that infuses the world with more positive energy by promoting acts of kindness, service, and community outreach in its many forms. Their 30 volunteer chapters nationwide have been responsible for hundreds of hours of community service. They've planted tress; built houses; helped hurricane victims; soothed grieving families in the bereavement process; worked in soup kitchens; removed graffiti; painted schools; supported wounded soldiers; fed the homeless; and have created and implemented yoga-based empowerment programs for abused and neglected children living in shelters. This list goes on and on. Some time ago, this kind of charity work may have just been considered a nice gesture, but today, organizations like Karma Krew have become downright essential to the healthy functioning of our society and community. So, please take a moment and do your part by sponsoring our team for Karma Kastles.

Any donation for this cause, large or small, will be greatly appreciated.
 

• Donate $20 - this buys yoga mats for two children participating in Karma Krew's shelter outreach work
• Donate $50 - this supports a certified yoga teacher to bring yoga classes to abused children for one week.
• Donate $75 - this furnishes a local community krew with all the training materials they'll need to run community outreach programs for an entire year.
• Donate $200 - this brings yoga to a children's shelter for an entire month.
• Donate another amount: Every cent helps.
