I am Stephanie Jamie, and I am excited to announce I will be attending the 2013 World Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea from January 26 to February 6. I will be joining three other athletes from NC to represent Special Olympics Team USA. I will be competing in alpine skiing. I have never attended a World Games event before, so I am very excited that I was selected.
I currently participate with Special Olympics Davie County in the sports of equestrian and alpine skiing. I attend Davie High School, and I am in the 12th grade. In 2009, I was co-awarded Athlete of the Year for the Piedmont Triad Area with my twin sister, Jennifer. I was very excited to share such a great honor with my sister. Participating in Special Olympics has changed my life. I have met so many new people and have been exposed to so many new situations that I have grown very independent. I have also grown more confident and learned many new skills. When I am not participating in my two favorite sports, I also enjoy dancing (jazz, ballet, and tap), singing for church and the community, fashion, music, movies, reading, exercising at the YMCA, and playing on the Wii.
It is such an honor to be selected to attend the World Winter Games. It will be an experience of a lifetime for me. I will be very proud to represent Special Olympics Team USA and North Carolina especially Davie County in my efforts competing in alpine skiing. I hope to bring home the gold medal!
