My family has been working in the area of Alajuelita for 12 years. In those 12 years we have lead 13 teams from the Seattle area to Costa Rica to serve. Each trip we always visit the Children's Center to do some kind of project. We served food, painted, built benches and chairs, repaired benches and chairs, but most important we gave love to children that may not receive much love or hope in their lives.
Each time we were there it was so obvious that the building needed to be replaced. It was functional, it kept the rain out (most of the time) but the rafters were sagging and the patches upon patches were making the building less and less safe. During the rainy season the river would rise and flood the building. We had the vision of someday tearing down the old building and constructing a new one that would be a beacon of hope to the whole community. Well, in an act of faith, the old building has been torn down! Now is the time to rebuild!
