Hi Family, Friends, & Colleagues,
Back in March 2008, a group of friends and acquaintances at my church, Shelter Rock Church (www.shelterrockchurch.com), decided to run the Chicago Marathon on October 12, 2008 to raise funds for World Vision’s relief efforts in Zambia. I decided back then that I would join and support this great cause.
I’ve been a runner most of my adult life, more in some seasons than others. I’ve even run a few 5K and 10K races, and longest run I ever managed to eke out before this current training effort was about 8 miles (this was a long time ago). So, why World Vision and why the Chicago Marathon 2008?
World Vision is a pre-eminent humanitarian relief organization that serves people in some of the most poor and difficult-to-reach areas in the world. They are renown for excellent aid programs that bring lasting hope and help to hundreds of thousands of people each year in 100 countries!
So, this is where I come in! As I have trained for the marathon, I have logged more than 450 miles, learned about and ached in muscles I never knew I had, sweated like only a long distance runner could, and learned to like (translate – crave) Gatorade in large quantities! My longest run, as of early September, is 20 miles, and I have a few long and many short training runs left before Marathon day on October 12.
This is also where you come in! Please join me in my efforts to raise funds for World Vision to provide help and hope in Zambia and sponsor me in the Chicago Marathon 2008. All you have to do is click on the SPONSOR ME NOW button to make a donation. World Vision even has a donor who has agreed to match all donations starting in September dollar-for-dollar, so whatever you give is actually doubled for you! Awesome!!
I really appreciate your support, and the children and families in Zambia will be far more grateful!
God bless you and again, Thank You!
P.S. If after reading about World Vision you would like to do even more, please click on the SPONSOR A CHILD button below to change the life of a child. You can sponsor a child for $35 per month, and be changed through your relationship with that child.
