Humane Society of Southwestern MI Maternity Ward Project
Our Humane Society Needs A New & Safe Place for the babies! Can you help?
The Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan's orignal building was built over 50 years ago. Designed to house homeless dogs while awaiting a new home, it was never intended to house cats or kittens.
However as our shelter and the demand for our services grew, we discovered that we had no place to house our most fragile residents. Realizing they needed a quiet, clean, and safe place was one thing, making it happen in a busy, overcroweded shelter is another.
One of the original dog wards was converted to a "maternity ward" for our babies. However the ward is based with chain link kennels. Not very condusive to or healthy for baby kittens who can wander through and under the kennels and get seperated from mom or fall to the floor from the elevated cages.
Two of our most active young volunteers are spearheading a fundraiser to renovate third run into a proper maternity ward for our tiniest guests.
They hope to raise enough money to replace the chain link & cement cages, with modern vented cages with plexi-glass doors that prevent escape and reduce the chance of airbourne disease transmission.
Please consider making a donation today to help us help them!
