About 6 years ago, our neighbors - in the aftermath of a loud and unpleasant breakup - tossed their two calico cats out into a January snowstorm. Because I'd noticed RBARI's building from I-287 and knew that they were a no-kill shelter, we contacted them. Would they take in these two cats? While they temporarily had a full house, if we could keep the kitties for a couple of weeks they would have space.
When we dropped off the cats two weeks later, I instantaneously fell in love with the place. The cats weren't locked in little cages. They roamed in two big rooms. People were there to play with them. The place smelled clean. The people who worked there really cared about the animals. It was obvious.
Fast forward to now: We've just returned Fizzgig, Hunter, & Diva, the latest (numbers 55, 56, & 57) of our foster cats, to the shelter.. Yep, we've had 57 temporary visitors so far. These three little ones came to us about 3 weeks old, soft and cuddly. Soon they'll all be in new forever homes, carefully placed by the wonderful staff at RBARI. It's still obvious that everyone there cares deeply about the animals.
Of course, now I know a lot more about the place. I serve on the Board and know the staff and the truly wonderful work they and the volunteers at RBARI do. And I know what all of that costs.
Taking in animals that would otherwise be homeless or dead, the people at RBARI quite literally save those dogs & cats. They work with problem animals to overcome those problems. They provide medical care, food, and love. So, I get to my plea: please support that work. RBARI's slogan is Come Adopt Love. Your donation will help them continue.
Thanks.
Sue
P.S. The staff is pretty busy right now, cleaning up from the two floods! A burst valve on a nearby water main sent 8" of water into RBARI on August 16. The following day, another valve gave way, with a repeat performance. Fortunately, all the dogs and cats were safely evacuated. But, we lost all the supplies and equipment on the first floor, including medicine refridgerators, food, and toys.
