Who We Are
Project Turnaround was founded as a non-profit public benefit corporation in 1984 with the mission of emplowering individuals with behavioral or social challenges.
We provide a nurturing community environment where these young adults connect with one another and express themselves through music, arts, theaters, and public speaking.
Through a sub-organization, the Pioneers Club, the individuals served by Project Turnaround, help to govern the organization. They have their own board and are able to vote on the type of classes and seminars that they would like to experience and the events they would like to hold and attend.
With these programs, Project Turnaround aims to help them discover their hidden gifts and realize their potential that will allow them to pursue their own future and achieve their dreams.
Project Turnaround also aspires to bring forth a new understanding of those with disabilities in the general community allowing those involved to feel valued and accepted by the larger population.

Hidden Gifts: Christmas Celebration of Talents
We have been practicing singing and dancing and learning hand choir to perform at the year-end talent show on December 11th. We had much fun putting this together but would be great to see support from the audience!
With this fundraising event, we are trying to raise $5,000 in donations so that we can reach out to more individuals and enrich the program offerings. The long-term goal is to have a larger space other than Nydiah's overflowing living room, and to have a shuttle bus for the students' convenience and safety.
Please come support us at the concert, or show your support with your donations! :)

What Parents Say About Project Turnaround...
"Each week, my son Ken looks forward to going to the program offered by Project Turnaround. He enjoys seeing and connecting with his friends and participating in whatever project the group may be working on. This program has made a very positive impact on his social life, self esteem and team building skills.
Project Turnaround needs support to continue and to expand its program. It has the potential to provide many opportunities to developmentally challenged individuals."

What Volunteers Say About Project Turnaround...
"When I first moved to San Diego about 6 months ago, I only knew a few people around here and wanted to find something meaningful where I can feel connected with the community. I found out about Project Turnaround through a volunteer website and after a brief chat with Nydia, I decided to teach the handbell choir (for the first time in my life!).
From the first encounter, my students lifted up my heart with a pure joy that I have not known before. We were all happy to share the love for music, though all had very distinctive tastes for music--some of us like classical, some listens to rock and hiphop, and some Peruvian music.
Every week, I look forward to the handbell choir class where I can immerse into the music of joyful chimes and the presence of people with warm hearts and happy smiles. It is extremely rewarding to see them enjoy the handbells and grow confident over time, but I also learn so much from them.
I want to see Project Turnaround invite more students but currently we are restricted with space and budget. I would really appreciate it if you could help us out in any way you can--volunteer as a teacher/ coach, come to our concert, or sponsor us financially!"
