Susan Fitton--Year 3!!
On Sunday, September 13, 2009, my teammates and I will come together again for the 11th Annual Walk to Cure Cancer. The five mile walk-a-thon raises money to support research at UMass Memorial Cancer Center at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. The Walk is proudly sponsored by the working families of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO. Now, in its 11th year, over 50,000 walkers have joined the Walk to Cure Cancer and raised nearly $6 million. We will walk in honor of those we know who have battled cancer, and help support the research to help others in their fight. For more information visit www.walktocurecancer.com.
MY PERSONAL STORY:
In 2007 my mother was diagnosed with cancer, just before my team and I signed up for the 9th Annual Walk. We worked hard to raise money as the cause had hit home especially hard that year. We had planned to walk together--my sister and I and several friends--and hoped that my Mom would join us for the last mile to of the walk. Unfortunately, my Mom lost her hard-fought, courageous battle in October of 2007. Last year, we walked again in her honor and memory, knowing that she was with us every step! Especially when the walk was the only sunny part of the day! So we are all walking again this year, to benefit a great cause and to remember all of the people we have known who have been effected by the disease. I also walk for my grandparents who suffered at the hands of this disease and one of our team members--a cancer survivor herself, and we are all honored to be walking by her side!
Together we can make a difference!
With much love and thanks,
Susan Fitton and the Hope Walkers
