Walking for a Cure
Please join me in helping to raise funds for the care and cure of Huntington's Disease.
My husband's family is affected by Huntington's Disease. His mother and older sister died of complications of HD as well as an aunt and an uncle. 2 of his cousins are living with the defective gene. This is personal for me. Since there is a 50/50 chance of inheriting the defective gene from a parent, my husband is at-risk. Although he has not shown any symptoms, we are hoping for negative test results.
There are thousands of people affected by this disease but because it is hereditary most people do not want to tell people (friends, employers, etc) they are at-risk so most people are unaware of the disease. Also, we do not have a famous spokesperson to advocate for funds for research as other disease-related organizations.
However, research funded by our walk will also help with other neurological diseases such as ALS, Parkinsons and Alzheimers. An anonymous foundation matches 2:1 all funds raised through HDSA. 85% of all funds raised go to programs of care and research for a cure.
I know each of us is busy with their own lives and their own personal issues and causes. There are just a limited amount of time that we all have to dedicate to this. But I am hoping you will join me at this walk in helping to make a difference. If you cannot join us please try and make a donation, any amount is greatly appreciated.
