I started as a bowler several years ago and didn't realize what a difference one person can make in a life.  As I got more involved, I started seeing how a strong role model can make a positive impact in the lives of kids in need.  Now that I work on the Board of Directors, I am even more passionate about helping the Agency meet the needs of so many kids in our communities.  I hope that I can count on your support to help us continue our mission!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Laurel Region is a fantastic organization who supports at risk kids in our communities. Kelli, Marcy, Ellen, Laurie, Rachel and Susan match volunteers and kids in our communities to provide one-on-one mentoring and positive influences to kids who need a little support and guidance to reach their fullest potential and succeed in life.

According to an independent study conducted by a national program development and research organization Public/Private Ventures (PPV), children who participated in the Big Brothers Big Sisters programs were:

• 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs

• 29% less likely to begin using alcohol

• 52% less likely to skip a day of school than their peers

• 37% less likely to skip a class

• More confident in their school performance

• More trusting of their parent or guardian

• 33% less likely to hit someone

• Getting along better with their families
