UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN TRANSPLANT CENTER

Bowling For Camp Michitanki 2009 Ann Arbor,  Michigan

Susan Thomas Schendel's Fundraising Page

  • Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for University of Michigan Transplant Center-Camp Michitanki.
  • Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
  • I have been to Camp Michitanki on several occasions, and have seen first hand how much our pediatric transplant campers enjoy and appreciate the opportunity to attend summer camp for a week in August with their peers.
  • Transplant nurses, physicians, social workers and other community volunteers work with YMCA staff to provide a "normal" and medically supervised camping experience.  Camp Michitanki is held at a YMCA camp located in scenic Oscoda, Michigan on the shores of Lan Van Ettan.
  • Camp Michitanki Mission Statement: "We believe that every child who has had an organ transplant should be able to have a camping experience.  Children who have been very sick and have survived because they received a heart, lung, liver, small bowel or kidney transplant have obstacles that are different from those of other children.  We believe that pediatric transplant recipients should be exposed to an environment that allows participation in every activity, fosters relationships with kids who have overcome similar medical hurdles, and encourages personal growth through supervised physical and social challenges."
  • At camp, transplant campers can participate in many activities that they would not ordinarily be able to experience.  These activities include: sailing, swimming, archery, horseback riding, golf, arts & crafts, rock climbing, high ropes, and many more.
  • My fundraising target is $2,250.00.  Camp costs $800.00 per child for the week, with the majority of this cost paid by fundraising events put on by the University of Michigan Transplant Center, and by private donations from caring people such as yourself.
  • I understand that these are difficult economic times.  If you are able, I hope that you will consider making a donation to the University of Michigan Pediatric Transplant Camp--Camp Michitanki.
