HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE UNITED STATES

April is Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month!

April is Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month!

In 2006, more than 354,344 baby seals were killed for their fur -- clubbed, shot, and skinned in the largest commercial hunt of marine mammals in the world.  Please urge Canada’s Minister of International Trade to put an end to the Canadian seal hunt by clicking here:  https://community.hsus.org/campaign/trademinister_protectseals/wi33wigzyw66tij?

Dear Friends,

April is Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month.  In the spirit of helping animals all over the United States, I created this page to benefit The Humane Society.  I've been a member of the Humane Society for a couple years and have seen the amazing growth of their success and dedication.  They continue to do incredible work, focusing on issues such as horse slaughter, puppy mills, cruel hunting practices, and bringing free veterinary care to rural areas.  In the past year, some of their accomplishments have included the following:

* Dogs will no longer be exploited in dogfighting videos sold by Best Buy, Netflix, Circuit City, eBay and Amazon.com, which agreed to pull the product from their shelves. Other dogs will be spared the brutality of hog-dog fighting after an HSUS investigation led to the arrest of organizers of a national hog-dog fighting association.

* After 150 pigs died following transport from Canada to Texas, some during the journey and others while confined in the trucks for an additional 2-3 days during 95-degree heat, the HSUS succeeded in including truck travel in the federal "28-hour law."  As such, lifestock must be unloaded, fed and rested after 28 hours of travel.

* Canada's seals moved closer to safety when the European Union called for a ban on harp and hooded seal products after Heather and Paul McCartney joined The HSUS' ProtectSeals team to oppose the annual Canadian seal hunt.

* Fewer rare and exotic animals will likely be targeted—and U.S. taxpayers will save as much as $49 million dollars over the next 10 years—after The HSUS persuaded Congress to close a tax loophole that allowed wealthy trophy hunters to write off the costs of their hunting trips as a charitable donation.

The list goes on.  Feel free to visit www.HSUS.org to read more about the organization.  In the meantime, please give what you can-no amount is too small- to celebrate April as Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month.  Also, please send this link along to fellow animal lovers who may be interested in supporting the Humane Society.

Thank you!
