That's one shelter paid for!!!! Let's keep going!!!!
We pledge not to forget the people of Haiti. Can you donate $5 to help shelter a nation in need? If not, can you get involved to find someone who can donate $5?
The hurricane season has arrived in Haiti. Thousands still have very little protection from the elements. The American Refugee Committee has been working effectively and constantly ever since the earthquake hit in January. But the rescue efforts have hit a crucial housing stage. They need our help to get through it. So, they are offering ordinary people just like us a way of doing something extraordinary to help the nation of Haiti rebuild. It’s called Sleep Out for Shelter.
The JETS Anderson family is holding a Sleep Out for Shelter event in our back yard on July 1, 2010. We will be giving up our sturdy home and soft beds to sleep in the elements for one night. Over 1 million Haitians have lost their homes. They sleep without proper shelter from the elements every night.
We are doing this event to raise money that will provide proper shelter needed for Haitian families. For every $1000 raised, a family of 5 can have a reliable shelter made of wood that is resistant to termites and rot. It will be built to withstand hurricane winds and earthquakes. And it will house them for 3 years while they rebuild their lives.
Our family’s goal is to raise as much as we can before July 1. The American Refugee Committee has hundreds of Haitians lined up ready to work - all they need is the money for supplies. With your help, our family can get a Haitian family into a sturdy shelter within a week of receiving every $1000 we raise. And we can be part of reaching ARC’s goal of building shelters for 3000 families in Haiti.
