So far, The Rouine Run Inc. raises funds to support research and awareness campaigns for Pulmonary Fibrosis and Hereditary Hemochromatosis.
We began work on The Rouine Run in 2009. Our first events, The Rouine Run for Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2010 and 2011, raised over $50,000.00 for research in the treatment of this poorly understood disease. PF is a devastating diagnosis and at present there is no effective treatment other than lung transplant surgery. We plan to hold this event each year on the first Sunday in June.
In 2011 we began work on a 2nd event,The Iron Run, to increase diagnosis and raise awareness about Hereditary Hemochromatosis. This condition is quite common but is often overlooked by health care professionals. If left undiagnosed and untreated HH often leads to diabetes, heart disease and liver disease. We plan to hold The Iron Run for Hemochromatosis each year on the first Sunday in May.
If we find ourselves able to execute two events per year without too much difficulty we will likely add a third and maybe even a fourth even to our annual plan. There is no shortage of worthy causes.
