On February 11, 2008, a little boy was born that changed our lives forever. Aiden Joseph has been a vibrant strong little fire from day one. Despite being born prematurely, he also surprised the doctors and his parents with a condition known as Apert syndrome.
After some research, we found that this rare genetic syndrome only effects 1 in every 160,000-200,000 births. We had no idea what to expect.
Since Aiden's birth we have traveled from Southern Indiana to Dallas, TX multiple times for four separate operations to correct some of the physical deformities that come along with his syndrome, as well as to expand his head to allow adequate room for the brain to grow.
Throughout our journey, the Children's Craniofacial Association has been a very important resource for our family. We turned to them for information about Apert syndrome shortly after Aiden was born, joined their online networking forum to meet other families effected by craniofacial conditions, and utilized their website for doctor suggestions, inspiring stories and information.
In May 2009, while Aiden was recovering from his most recent surgery, I visited the CCA office in person to discuss ways that our family could help them succeed in their mission to continue to provide such resources for other families in need. Thus, the idea of Aiden's Auction came about.
We are organizing a Silent Auction/Dinner to benefit CCA.
Little Fire Big Heart will take place on September 25, 2010. We hope that you, your company, your friends and/or your family are able to come out and support this very important cause that is so close to our hearts. Without organizations like CCA, the challenges we face in raising a child with such a rare craniofacial condition would be overwhelming.
