Greetings from the TEAM:

 

The 2013 cycling season is in full force and Team MaD Dad is arriving just in time to qualify for this year's main event:  The Air Force Cycling Classic Crystal Ride.   Better late than never, we are back for a FOURTH straight year to "Pedal with a Purpose" and raise money for injured soldiers!

 

Marcus and Daniel and Dad were slow to get underway this year because of organizational changes within the TEAM.  The week after last year's Crystal Ride event, Marcus (call sign "Turbo") said that he was ready to ride on his own.  As TEAM Dad, Coach, and Trainer, I was skeptical that he could do it and I worried it would set the TEAM back for the rest of the year, not to mention losing key sponsorship and support.  Sensing my hesitation, he challenged me to a bet and on Sunday, June 17th, 2012, at 1:45pm, Turbo "...let slip the surly bonds" of training wheels and he hasn't looked back since.  He won the bet, but Dad won, too.  It was the best Father's Day present ... EVER.

Equally important, Daniel (formerly known as "Ballast"), has grown to an impressive 3 1/2 feet tall, with an inseam of 19 inches, which is just (barely) enough to reach the pedals of the front seat of the tandem.  So, on April 14th of this year, Daniel took his first ride up front where he started by screaming in terror, but finished by screaming not to stop.  Given his acheivement, the child seat in back was permanently removed and retired, along Daniel's nickname "Ballast."  As the newest pedaling member of the TEAM, Daniel chose his new call sign, "Sonic."

So this year, the TEAM will once again be taking the Air Force Cycling Classic Crystal Ride Challenge, but Turbo will be riding on his own bike, side-by-side with Sonic and Dad on the tandem. 

What hasn't changed this year is our need for your support! 

We are trying to earn the Top Fundraiser title for the THIRD straight year in a row by exceeding last year's goal of $2000 ... and we're trying to do it all in just one week!  Fundraising will close on Friday, June 7th, so if you are able to help, please do so, NOW.
