Dear Friends and Family:
As you know Jason is now 31 years old. Our lives changed forever when Jason was diagnosed with Autism at 2 years and nine months. Jason was living with us until he was 12 years old. Because of his hyperactive behavior we could not sleep or lead a normal life or take care of our two other children when he was living with us. Then, we sent him to a residential school (Boston Higashi School) in Boston far away from home in Chicago. In order to take care of Jason we moved to Boston.
When Jason completed his schooling age of 22 years, he was moved to a residential program near our home run by HMEA. His life is supplemented by another HMEA day program, which provides him with supervised working opportunity, recreation, social interaction and commmunity living, and bringing him home over the weekend to spend time with his family.
The HMEA program is funded by the State's Department of Mental Retardation and the Social Security program. Because of the increasing 'autistic' and other special needs population, the funding of HMEA has been cut and we need to supplement these with private funds. Therefore we are requesting your tax-free donations to support this worthy cause.
HMEA is having a- HMEA's 6th Annual Independence 5K Walk/Run in the Park-on Sunday, May 20th, and in which our son Jason and we will be participating . This is a fun-filled family day fundraiser ...it features FREE entertainment, food, Kids Raffle...there's also a Kids Corner, a Raffle, prizes and so much more. It will be held at the EMC2 Corporation at Franklin Industrial Park, 50 Constitution Boulevard, Franklin, MA. Jason has decided to form a team to help raise funds for HMEA and we're asking for your support. ALL the money raised goes back into the many programs offered by HMEA.
HMEA is a non-profit Human Services Agency that provides specialized supports and education to children and adults with developmental disabilities. Over 1200 people ages 1 to 101 are receiving supports through HMEA. Our son Jason is in one of the residential programs, and we can tell you first hand that his direct care staff provide wonderful care, which includes community inclusion that helps Jason, along with his housemates "REACH OUT FOR INDEPENDENCE". HMEA and the people who work their truly do "...believe in the power of dreams, NOT the limitations of disabilities."
Please consider making a donation to Jason's Team, any amount is greatly appreciated. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts - simply follow the steps below. If you would prefer you can send a check directly to HMEA, just mention its for "Jason's Team" page.
