My good friend is organzing this event and I thought it would be a good cause to support. The mission statement and plan of action moved me take part and not just give a donation:

Mission: The Akshaya Patra Foundation has two primary objectives, to address childhood hunger and malnutrition issues in India and to increase underprivileged children's access to education. Akshaya Patra believes that no child in India, and the world, should be denied equitable access to food and education. The organization's goal is to feed one million children by 2010.
