We often hear stories of people or animals who overcome terrible circumstances- you know the ones who are dealt a terrible hand in the game of life. And although they would be the ones who would have the ‘right’ to be bitter and develop a the-world-owes-me attitude- they don’t- for some reason they are the ones who look at what they have, not what they don’t have, or could have. That is Shaboogie- her glass is always half full.

Shaboogie started out an underdog- a mixed breed in a world who wants the fanciest designer dogs. She went from one rescue to another in hopes that someone would be able to find her a family that would care for her for the rest of her life. Instead, despite our best efforts, she ended up in a home where she was obviously just a dog- a dog who would be given to someone else just weeks after her adoption. And just several months later she would be abandoned when her caretaker was arrested and taken away. At just 10 months old, Shaboogie found herself in yet another rescue, the Franklin County Animal Shelter. FCAS found through Shaboogie’s microchip that CHA Animal Shelter is where she was adopted from, and offered to let us try to make things right for her.

And if all of that wasn’t enough… here at CHA Animal Shelter we noticed that she was having trouble walking/standing. She would be bounding towards you with all the energy and excitement of a 10-month-old puppy, and her back legs would just fall out from under her. She never let it get her down- she would get right back up and try again- with the world’s biggest smile on her face! Dr. Gonzalas at the Rascal Unit confirmed that Shaboogie would need surgery on both knees to keep her kneecaps in place. Shaboogie’s surgery will cost the shelter $1,600.00
