11/19/10 UPDATE: The vet called APARN on Saturday 11/13, to say an 8 month old pug that tested positive for parvo was surrendered to them, did we want to take him into rescue? Of course we said yes! His name is Jaxson, and he spent three days on IV fluids and supportive care at the vets office. Jaxson, Randy and Tito are all now home, and doing well at the foster's house. Please help us pay the vet costs incurred from giving these darling babies a chance.
Dying from Parvo is preventable. Please encourage everyone you know to vaccinate their dogs to keep them from going through anything like this.
11/13/10 UPDATE: We lost both Jermaine and Marlon. Both seemed to be doing well, and went home for the night. The next morning, the relapsed and spent two days in the hospital before making their way to the Bridge.
11/11/10 UPDATE: Sadly, Lester succumbed to this horrible disease. Four of his brothers are currently in the hospital, undergoing supportive IV fluid therapy. Thank you to everyone who is helping with donations and prayers for these boys, we appreciate you all so much!
11/6/10: Meet Lester. He and his five brothers are just 11 weeks old, and are fighting for their lives! Surrendered to APARN on Friday 11/5, Lester tested positive for parvo, and was immediately hospitalized and put on supportive IV fluid therapy. When the previous owners were advised of the positive test for parvo, his five brothers were also surrendered, and each tested negative for parvo on Friday. On Saturday, one of the brothers' condition worsened and he was re-tested; this time it was positive. His name is Jermaine and he is now at the vet with Lester, on supportive IV fluid therapy.
There are many sad things involved here, the first being that any or all of the remaining four brothers could turn parvo positive any minute. It happens just that quickly. Another is that parvo could have been prevented had their previous owners simply had them vaccinated. No puppy should ever have to go through the horror of parvo!
Supportive treatment and hospitalization is expensive, but these darling puggies deserve a chance. The vet feels that since we caught the symptoms so early, and began therapy, they have about an 80% chance at surviving.
Once the boys are all out of danger from the parvo virus, they will receive their other vaccinations, and when strong and healthy, will be neutered.
Won't you please help us raise the funds needed for their care? Hospitalization and treatment is about $1500 per pug to see them through the worst part of the viral infection. After care, vaccinations and neuter are about $500 per pug.
Your donations are tax-deductible, and what better Christmas present could these little boys ask for than the chance to live through this horrible disease and find forever families!
