blueEnergy's Two Million Hours of Light Campaign
Thank you for supporting our "Two Million Hours of Light" campaign!
As the globally unprecedented 2009 year comes to a close and people around the world take a new look at their personal budgeting, an interesting fact quickly emerges: there is a clear and distinct difference between need and want, between true necessity and merely material. And with that realization comes the understanding that the resources previously directed towards the “merely material” column can be shifted and re-allocated to areas that provide something beyond fleeting personal enjoyment, areas that will make a lasting and meaningful impact for someone in desperate need.
On the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua where blueEnergy works, only 25% of the population has access to electricity. The remaining 75% lives, literally, in the dark. This holiday season, blueEnergy is launching its “Two Million Hours of Light” campaign to help pierce the darkness and bring electricity to our communities in need. We invite you to help us meet our goal by re-allocating some of the “merely material” funds in your own personal budget and help provide light for those in need. Every $1 donation can provide an additional 80 hours of light for our beneficiaries in Nicaragua. Through this Two Million Hours of Light campaign, we are aiming to raise over $20,000 by December 31, 2009. Help us meet our goal!
blueEnergy aims to raise half of this amount ($10,000) directly through this FirstGiving website; the additional $10,000 will be raised by our "Gift of Light Ambassadors". These individuals care about the research and development of alternative, sustainable energy resources in developing countries, and they believe in blueEnergy’s mission to improve lives in marginalized communities. If you are interested in becoming a "Gift of Light Ambassador," please visit our "Become an Ambassador" webpage. These donations are tracked off-line and updated figures are manually included in the FirstGiving tracker below (updated once a day).
Have you donated the Gift of Light in someone's name (either independently or through the "Request the Gift of Light campaign)? Be sure to write you personalized message as you donate and download a printable card here to inform them of your gift.
