Celebrating a Lutheran Dream
Dear Friends,
Almost 20 years ago, a small group of Lutheran Ministers gathered and prayed for guidance as to how to respond to a new social phenomenon that was growing in Broward County: hunger. In our own backyard we were seeing more and more homeless people who were being shunned by society and had nowhere to turn.
Over the past 20 years, our Lutheran dream of service to those in need has manifested itself through The Cooperative Feeding Program, which celebrates two decades of feeding the hungry and homeless in September of this year.
The need today is even greater.
Former Pastor Luther Anderson of the First Lutheran Church in downtown Fort Lauderdale started giving out peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Then Trinity Lutheran, Christ Lutheran, Peace Lutheran, Grace Lutheran, and St. Francis Mission, a Lutheran outreach all rallied to the call for help. And the "Lutheran Cooperative Feeding Program of Fort Lauderdale, Inc" was born.
As Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church and a proud Board member of The Cooperative Feeding Program for the past 18 years, I am now calling upon my fellow Lutherans for help. I am witness to the fact that the initial call to serve we experienced in our church two decades ago is just as urgent today. The number of people served by our Cooperative Feeding Program has increased 30% this year compared to last. WE NEED YOUR HELP to continue to feed the stomachs and souls of our hungry neighbors.
Please help rekindle the Lutheran dream of serving the hungry and donate to The Cooperative Feeding Program today. Please send this website address to your friends and family. If we all help a little, we will achieve a lot.
I was hungry and you fed me. I was naked and you clothed me. Let us all do God's will on earth. With Blessings,
Pastor Louis Abel
