One friend is too many to lose to suicide. In the last few years, three of my friends have lost their battles with depression. This September, I'm embarking upon a pilgrimage, El Camino de Santiago de Compostela, which will take me from France, over the Pyrenees, and across northern Spain. It's an 800 km trek which should take me about 32-35 days. Every one of those days, those three friends will be remembered fondly.
This pilgrimage is not just for me. It's also to raise awareness of and money for the prevention of suicide. I've chosen the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to receive tax-deductible donations in conjuction with my journey. Those donations not only fund research and prevention, but are also a tribute to the lives of my friends and yours who may have taken their own lives.
It doesn't matter how much or how little you give, just that you do. By giving anything, you're not only showing support for me on my trip, but helping a very worthwhile cause. How about sponsoring me for $0.01 per mile (one PENNY per mile)? That's only a $5 donation. :)
