There are currently 104,000 people on the National Transplant Waiting List!  Every Registered Donor has the potential to save 8 lives and improve the lives of up to 50 more!

As some of you know, in August 2004, I was an Army First Sergeant, stationed in Germany, when I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure.  Bacteria from a root canal six months earlier was the cause.  Doctors told me that transplant was my only option. 

 

We flew back to the States and settled in San Antonio, TX.   

 

My heart was working at about 15% function.  I was always fatigued and winded.   The stress on my family was a constant.

 

The day before Thanksgiving 2006 I was placed on the transplant list.  

 

Six days later, on 28 November 2006 my life changed forever.  the call came; they had  an absolutely perfect Donor Heart and it was for me.   There were emotions; fear, anxiety, joy, hope…  That hope was tempered by the knowledge that its origin was someone else’s tragedy.  This thought will be with me forever.

 

It has been two and a half years since my transplant and I am doing great! 

 

I have been able to resume my life and I am catching up!

 

As President of Vital Alliance, I honor my Donor by volunteering my time promoting organ and tissue donation.
